Virtual Virginia

Through its Virtual Virginia program, the state of Virginia reaches thousands of students in more than 500 school districts, providing online AP and foreign courses to students across the commonwealth and the US.

Virtual Virginia program is very unique in that it gives full control to local school counselors, who can login to the system and not only see a list of their students and their information, but also enroll and withdraw the students from online courses, without the need for any intervention from the Virtual Virginia staff.

All the operating details such as teacher assignments and course caps are completely hidden from the school counselors, who simply select the student, the course to be taken, the start date and the mentor. The rest is handled behind the scenes by Maestro, who optimizes student allocation so that students from the same school are kept with the same teacher, and makes sure enrollment caps are followed.

The Maestro SIS interfaces with Desire2Learn, Virtual Virginia's Learning Content Management System, so that enrollment information is kept synchronized on both systems, and student information and enrollments only need to be entered on Maestro, which then automatically updates the LCMS.
